Dear Baker,
Enclosure No. 4.
40 END
Cant on-Kowloon Railway,
Chinese Section.
Engineer-in-Chief's Office,
Canton,
Date 31st October, 1928.
In reference to the 30 ton open wagon belonging
to your Section which was derailed on the Chinese Section
on the Sien Tsun Bridge and went over into the creek, I note
that you are asking the sum of $6,684.60 for cost of same.
I understand you have sold a few 30 ton
covered goods wagons to the Yueh-Han Railway at $6,000
each. As these accounts have to be submitted to the
Ministry of Reconstruction he will no doubt ask why the
difference in cost, I would be glad if you will kindly
reconsider the price asked and give us the wagon at the
same cost that you sold the cars to the Yueh-Han Railway.
This accident was not due to negligence on
the part of this Section but owing to military operations
which we had no control of, so I hope you will be able to do something in regard to reducing the cost.
Yours sincerely,
(Sd.) William M. Stratton.
